Let’s get real: I have zero clue what 2025 has in store for job seekers. (Honestly, I don’t know what it’s going to bring us in general.)
Here’s what I do know: hitting Easy Apply a thousand times a week won’t land you your dream job in the New Year. Submitting one perfectly crafted online application a day probably won’t either.
If you want a new job in 2025, you’ve got to approach it differently. Here are the 5 things I believe you’ll need to commit to:
1. Find What You Care About
Making a career pivot without figuring out what lights you up is like setting out on a road trip to a new place without Google Maps. Where are you even going?
Before you start applying, take the time to reflect:
What have been your happiest moments at work?
What values do you hold close?
What’s your mission in life?
When you identify the why behind your next move, you’ll feel more confident about where you’re headed.
2. Expect the Unexpected
Let’s face it: the world is changing rapidly, and we can’t predict what’s coming next. Industries are evolving, roles are shifting, and the skills that matter today might look different tomorrow.
Stay open to possibilities and be ready to adapt. If you embrace the unknown, you’ll be better equipped to thrive no matter what the job market throws your way.
Speaking of thrive... check out Ignite Your Career 2025 for the answer to unlocking thrive-mode in your career next year.
3. Diversify Your Strategy
Applying online isn’t enough anymore. Period.
Instead, for every two applications you submit, ask yourself:
Who are two people I could reach out to in this industry?
Who could I ask for help in making new connections?
What’s one event I could attend to meet people in the field?
Opportunities most often come from conversations, not just applications. Diversify how you approach your job search, and you’ll uncover opportunities you never knew existed.
4. Focus on Relationships
Let’s address the big question: If you’re going to get hired in 2025, who's going to hire you?
Building relationships is everything, so think about how you can:
Deepen your existing professional connections.
Expand your network intentionally.
Surround yourself with people who can vouch for your skills and talents.
People hire people they trust. Invest in building those relationships now.
5. Invest in Yourself
Let me tell you something hard but true:
The anxiety you feel about performing well at work…
The uncertainty about what’s next…
The habit of people-pleasing to your detriment…
None of those things will disappear just because you get a new job.
You are your most important asset.
Take time to work on yourself:
Find a therapist who can help you navigate what’s holding you back.
Invest in a career coach who can guide you step by step.
When you pour into yourself, you’re not just preparing for your next job—you’re preparing for a future where you show up as your best self.
